Technology and innovation

SetCar commissioned the first mobile indirect thermal desorption (ITD) plant in Romania.

The plant separates volatile toxic volatile substances from contaminated soils at temperatures above the boiling point of these substances. It is designed to decontaminate soils contaminated with HCH, mercury, various volatile products, phenols, PCBs, etc.

The major advantage of DTI is that the contaminated soil does not come into direct contact with the hot process gases. The entire gas circuit is carried out under vacuum, which eliminates the possibility of gas escaping into the atmosphere.

The mobile indirect thermal desorption plant is equipped with all the necessary measuring and control devices for real-time monitoring and adjustment of flow parameters.

SetCar has also commissioned a mobile Direct Thermal Desorption (DTD) plant, used in particular to treat soils contaminated with hydrocarbons and other pollutants with volatile components.

The major advantage of direct thermal desorption is the higher productivity compared to indirect thermal desorption. This advantage is due both to the fact that the contaminated soil comes into direct contact with the flue gases in the desorber, and to the fact that the petroleum products in the soil maintain the combustion, improving the plant’s efficiency.
